Blogging v1.0— the history

When I first started blogging, I went on ranting about my daily activities as an internet-savvy 12-year old. Back then, I could type anything I want without worrying if I made sense or used proper punctuation— remember when 3 periods after each phrase made everything sound so much cooler? I was one of those kids, the ones who lived and breathed the internet at 12. *laughs*

As I grew older, my blogging skills progressed. From daily activities, I went to expressing myself more with emo-ish write-ups about young love and how I perceived it. I was starting to get into a circle of internet friends, Myspace was so in back then, and got hooked into writing and amateur photography. Upon graduating from high school, I made sure I made a little more sense with my ranting and crooked philosophies. I started leaning into art, fashion, and drama— these 3 when mixed together make a really good fictional book character.

I was all set at 16. I knew I wanted to take my writing more seriously. I applied in school publications and got in each time, garnering good feedback from each boss. I liked writing, especially features writing where I learned most of what I know now. This helped me a lot in forming a fashion blog, one which I chose to call Fashion Firewoman.

Fashion Firewoman is my baby. I try to redesign it as often as I can without losing its signature colors but not once did I change its name. And now, I have it in its simplest form— no sidebars, no excessive photos, no advertisements. I’ll tell you more about this in a different entry.

Fashion Firewoman started as an ordinary Tumblr site where I reblogged the cool finds from the people I followed. It started out slow and child-like until I realized I could do so much with it. It received following and good feedback especially because in 2008, there weren’t too many eager bloggers. People were scared to voice out their daily rambles, people weren’t too fond of the idea that the whole world could be relying on his or her fashion perceptions. Nowadays, everyone can and wants to blog. People are more open to the world. Some people want to be heard while others just want to be seen. This is what’s different from the bloggers before and the bloggers now.

Before, bloggers wanted to write to express. They wanted to document their daily looks and write about why they bought their top, how they inherited a vintage purse— it’s so much different nowadays. Now, bloggers write to impress. Blog posts end with courtesy of, lots of thank you for my this and that. I must admit, I did give in to this petty thing and tried monetizing my blog. I also accepted sponsored posts and enjoyed writing about their items. I’ve hosted giveaways, featured brands— the works. It was fun, really, I can’t complain about getting pairs of shoes in the mail. I’ve made lots of friends both from my blog readers and shop owners and the best thing I’ve learned is that you have to screen your friends thoroughly.

Hmm. This is a pretty angsty comeback piece. I guess I reached the point wherein I got tired of blogging, but not of writing.

Jariss Wears: PLDT shoot + giveaway items

I was in Rockwell Business Center today for a PLDT myDSL biz shoot. Promise to post more about that deal, it’s got follow-ups so I best be blogging about it some time next week. ;)

Just an update, I still run this blog. Not only is it my birthday month, it’s also my birthday week and I’ve been out most of the week, err, month, running errands. It’s pretty unfair to be jumping form one place to another doing shoots and other stuff but it gives me more reason to enjoy my Salubong which takes place on Saturday.

I was supposed to wear heels but I got really lazy to run in them, making my look more boheme *oh noes*. I’m not perky but I’m jumpy, I like moving around. I’m really happy that my hair is getting longer. I’m confident enough to let a clip hold my little bangs now, but I fear that I look so timid with a clip on. I look so… nice. I am, I really am, but that’s what I’d like to believe. HAHA

Feeling like a bird— carefree and colorful— that’s my peg. I apologize, I always say I’m not a perky girl, not even when it comes to dressing up. I’m always in black and the most I can do to make my look vary is to wear chunky, colorful accessories… sometimes I just wear striking shoes to look fancy. I must say, I’m getting very engrossed with midi to maxi skirts. Oh noes, I’m turning boheme! Blue electric pleated skirt from The Closet Goddess

Here is where the bird peg manifests: I see the necklace as a peacock, the bangles as some colorful bird, and the ring is a literal bird, a parrot. Necklace, bangles and parrot ring— all from Labels. You can win all of these by joining my birthday blog giveaway. It’s really easy. Please view these links to know how to score all these and more. MECHANICS | ALL POSTS | SPONSORS

Look at me, look at me!
Mardi Gras by eccentricleartiste featuring floral shorts
I was talking to a friend and she mentioned how she’s missing Mardi Gras for the second time for two consecutive years, and how she makes up for it by going to Sinulog this year (which btw, she missed last year for the first time). I’m not familiar with Mardi Gras, but I know what it stands for. I asked more about it and all I know is that it’s colorful. Violets, greens, yellows. Prints. This set is inspired by the Mardi Gras version in my head. Is it….wrong? Tell me. I built it up this way. *laughs*

I’m on to you, S/S by eccentricleartiste featuring pleated shorts
I’m deeply engrossed with Spring even if we don’t have it here in Manila but we have Summer, which is usually side by side with Spring so that’s close enough. ;)

I’m hooked on pinks and neutrals; I’m not sure where I got the influence but I always find beige and pink really neat and easy on the eyes. Draw inspiration from this set when you want to feel and look relaxed without looking bland. These are still perfect for the weather. Notice how it’s really cold at night? It’s as if Christmas got delayed! *laughs*
