Shop Alert: Off the Rack Online
About the seller
Claire Jariss Manlapas is a 20-year old Multimedia Arts student who writes for WhenInManila.com and handles marketing for Nail It! Salon on the side. On top of that, she runs a fashion blog called “Fashion Firewoman” which doubles as her online portfolio and journal for fashion-related events. Generally, she enjoys writing and reading foreign fashion sites/blogs to keep herself updated.
She used to daydream about selling accessories online such as rings and bangles but got extremely busy to even wear them. She has no background in selling, but she keeps a good relationship with different top online shops she’s featured in her blog and is fond of hopping from one online shop to another. See Shop Alert features HERE.
How did you start?
This was an idea over lunch on a long weekend. Believe it or not, the whole concept, buying of goods and putting up of an online page took place in 5 days— everything was done out of impulse.
How is OFF THE RACK different from other online shops?
Products are brand new but I don’t design them. Nowadays, it’s either you design what you sell or you fetch them from a thrift store then resell. All I do is order the trendiest clothes fresh OFF THE RACK and sell them.
The pieces are hand-picked. Unlike other retailers, I don’t just grab everything that’s on wholesale. I make sure that what I sell passes my standards and are of good taste. Sure, you might see similar designs in other shops but here’s the thing: you don’t need to go through every single piece to find the dress of your dreams; I gather all the pretty ones and sorta do the picking for you. ;)
Everything is affordable. I like pretty things, that’s a fact. But most pretty things are far too expensive when really, you can get them at such lower prices. I want people to afford what I like and OFF THE RACK is making that possible— let’s leave it at that. ;)
What is your price range?
Nothing goes beyond Php1000. And yes, I’m talking about everything, even the frilly dresses.
How do we reach you?

Shop Alert: Candy Bags

Candy Bags allowed me to rummage through their store which resembled a gallery of candy-colored goodness. Managed by Jenny Juan, this imported bag business brings us the latest bag craze in Manila.

Candy Bags is like a candy store for the big kids minus the tooth ache. It caters to teenagers up to their hip mothers. The bags are made from a combination of materials such as fur, denim and different types of leather. Aside from coming in yummy colors, they also come in different patterns like stripes and floral, in shapes such as tote, rectangular and heart.

Here are the bags I got to pull out for a summer-themed shoot for my final project in desktop publishing. See related posts HERE.

I couldn’t help but take a vain shot of myself with some of the colorful bags on the background! This branch of Candy Bags is located in 50th Avenue, Robinson’s Galleria. They may also be found in Tiendesitas. You may see the full bag collection in their Facebook.

Shop Alert: ExtremeFinds

Miss Cha Sy put up a store that offers fun finds that appeal to the kitschy market. She admits being an aficionado of cute finds such as notebooks, stickers and pens which was a great way to start up a business— she already had the heart for what she wants to sell. ExtremeFinds is a product of interest of a one-man (or should I say one-woman) army, that’s slowly being known for its chic accessories.

The story behind the cuteness

I always have a thing in fashion and other cute finds ever since ExtremeFinds started in 2009 as an online store that caters to young women, young adults, and yuppies who have the same interest as mine. Only late last year, I realized that I want to do full time with ExtremeFinds. I also plan to study fashion and make/design/sew clothes.

Where the cuteness comes from

I came up with the name “ExtremeFinds” because my boyfriend has an online camera shop called EXTREMEDEALS. With ExtremeFinds, I stick to cute, quirky, one of a kind products. Some accessories are designed and handmade by me, others are sourced from China and Hong Kong. I offer a friendly price because I believe that it doesn’t have to be expensive to be FASYON.

The woman behind ExtremeFinds

I run this online shop alone. I design, source out materials and products, I do and edit product shots, design the banners/album covers— I basically do everything! Sometimes I ask help from my boyfriend and my sisters. It actually helps that I’m a graduate of Multimedia Arts. I can do almost everything. :)

Follow ExtremeFinds through Facebook and Multiply.

You may track this tag to see all my posts that involves the shop. I’ve been wearing everything I got from the shop in my recent outfit posts—I hope they’ll give you an idea on how you can style your own pieces from ExtremeFinds. :)

Fashion 101: Coachella at Rockwell

Coachella is an annual music festival in California where celebrities and commoners who love music come together and get a chance to camp on site while waiting for their favorite bands go on stage. It’s a 3-day nonstop partying with people who come from all around the globe to experience live music. It has been a sought after event by teenagers both here and abroad and it sucks that most of us can’t make it to the actual event.

Thankfully, a group of young and able entrepreneurs were able to bring a taste of Coachella here in Manila with Coachella at Rockwell, a bazaar of unique finds + summer beats.

 When: April 8, 9, 10- 12pm until 12mn
Where: Rockwell Tent, Makati

Links to the event via Facebook may be found here and here.

This bazaar is especially close to my heart because a good friend of mine is one of the producers (Roxy Martinez: a breath of fresh air), I got to work with one of the photographers of the ad campaign (Aldrich Lim: He’s the BEST!), and I was able to work with one of the models (Isabelle Chiang: what a sweetheart!). We’re all from SDA and the school publication so I sure hope not to miss it!!!

Aside from that, I’ve written features for some of the participating shops and they’ve earned their own spots in my heart. Some of the participating stores I adore are as follows:

Extreme Finds
POSH Pocket Shoes

Sole Service Manila
Suelas Shoes
The Second Shop
This Modern Age Clothing
Ylla Shoes

If you’re not in the list and I’ve written about you, please let me know so that I can put up your shop immediately. :)

Start your summer with a pumped up closet and make sure to stuff it with all sorts of fun and unique items from the Coachella at Rockwell Bazaar.
